Why go through Last.fm rather than each service?

Because not every service exposes a usable history API. Last.fm already aggregates Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and YouTube Music: one connection is enough, and your history survives a change of platform.

What happens if I switch platforms?

Nothing is lost. As long as the new service is linked to Last.fm, your history continues on the same timeline, without a gap.

Do I need a paid Last.fm account?

No. A free Last.fm account is enough to pass your listening through to Kantise.

Does Kantise replace Last.fm?

No. Last.fm stays the source of your listening. Kantise adds the crossing with your other data, which Last.fm does not do.
